The next project

First, I’d like to thank all of you that supported our music, wrote about us, and genuinely took an interest in us. The stats seem to show that Ansur’s popularity isn’t fading, and hit counts and listening stats have been more or less stable the last two years. This is positive, taking into consideration that we’ve had no output in since “Warring Factions” in 2008. Both our albums are now up on Spotify, and I hope this will give many new listeners the chance to hear our music, as well as making it easier for you guys to continually listen to us. One of our big goals with “Warring Factions”, as well as “Axiom”, was to make music that lasts, music that can after a year, still give the listener an experience as enjoyable as the first time he/she listened to it. I now believe we should have done a lot of things different with our albums in terms of production, execution and arrangements, but I hope that this is one thing we succeeded in doing.

As I’ve written in some of the comments here, we’ve decided to leave the Ansur-name behind, and we’re reforming into a new band. There are a lot of musical changes, but the most significant will be the change from sceaming vocals to clean vocals, and the change from a extreme-based metal style to a more progressive rock-ish expression (though you guys still may have a some difficulties describing it genre-wise).

This is a decision which we have long thought about, and we think it will be for the best.

There are hours of material for the next album, but the selection process is extremely difficult, and more has yet to be written. It’s an exciting to be in this idea-phase, to have the chance to conceptualize and do everything from scratch again. No name for this project yet, so give us a shout if you have any suggestions. Though some may be disappointed that we’ve decided not to take the Ansur-name further, I can assure you that our next project will emphasize quality and originality, and hopefully you’ll end up listening to it anyway.

    Hey guys,
    that´s a little bit shocking.
Is there any new project site and/or name for the band?

When we can expect a new record from you guys?

    best wishes,
    Damian

A name hasn’t been decided yet. But as soon as it does, there will be a new website etc.

The record will probably be out some time in 2012.

So, with this, will Ansur be dead, or simply cryogenically frozen until you guys get the itch, or feel like releasing something that’s too heavy for the new project?

  4. torstein

Difficult to say, but as of now, we won’t be doing anything more under the Ansur-name.

Looking forward to hearing the clean vocals. I think of “Warring Factions” more as an prog album than a metal album, anyway, so I’m excited to hear new music coming from you guys no matter if it’s metal or bluegrass.

Great to hear things are moving again!

The name doesn’t concern me at all and I’m sure the new music will be great!

Great news ! “Warring Factions” was a progessive metal album with a lot of prog rock influences, so I don’t mind the change of name or orientation… but I have a question though : you say it will be more prog rock-ish… alright, but will it be still a metal band with a strong prog rock influence or a 100% prog rock band ? In other words : is it just a kind of “mutation” or rebirth of the organism known as Ansur, or totaly new project with a totaly new approach ?

It will be more like progressive rock with metal influences, though it doesn’t sound much like classic progressive rock.

It’s a completely new approach, but still the same guys behind the music, so I don’t think it will sound all that unfamiliar to Ansur-listeners.

    Hey guys

I read this while I was listening to Warring Factions.

Warring Factions is definently a masterpiece and a huge influence on my own writing style. However, this bit of news did irk me a little. Are you guys going in the same direction that Warring Factions was going in or will we be hearing a clone of Opeth? Not that it matters. Either way, I’d still like the music. But I like the overall atmosphere that Warring Factions had and if the next record is going to sound like that or similar, I’d be a happy man.

What I’m asking is are you guys going to be changing yourselves entirely? re-inventing yourself entirely so to speak or will we be hearing Warring Factions style music from the same guys but under a different name?

    Regards:

    Pete

Oh yeah and in terms of a name:

    Phobos

    Axiom

    or

    Proxima

Hi Pete, and thanks for your suggestions.
The sound will probably be reckognizable to Ansur-listeners. Some ideas/styles from production, arrangements etc. are still there and will be even played up a bit, like the largeness and scale in the production. Other things will be not there at all. And it will certainly not be a Opeth-clone. :-)

I would think it’s more of a re-invention than continuing the same music under a different name, though.

Wow, BIG news, not bad though, I kind of like the thought of a rock-ish band with metal infulences. I am listening to the Warring album too! haha. Love the music you already put out, probably will love the new project too!
I have an idea for the name. I.D.M.A.
It Doesn’t Mean Anything, haha, I love when people ask what it means and I say “It doesn’t mean anything” and they’re like “but it hast to mean something!” :)
Good luck with the new project, I can’t wait to hear it!!

  15. Mathias

I can’t wait to hear what you guys are working on.
The name doesn’t really matter to me. I listen to a lot of extreme metal, but I listen to even more “less heavy” prog metal and prog rock.

  16. Aenaon

You do a good thing changing your name if you feel like it.
If artists were actually paid for their true value you would be very very rich. Keep it that way with your new project too.

Wish you the best for your new album.

I keep checking back for news, this story is now 6 months old, come on! I can’t wait for new material, Warring Factions is joyous and I’m gagging to hear the next phase. I only hope there’s just as much going on in the new stuff. Please don’t get bogged down worrying about clean hits and perfect production, the multi-layers and implusive ideas flying all over the place on WF is what makes you guys great.

  21. Henning

How is the record going? Still looking for a 2012 release? What about the band name?

I would also very much like to hear some of your new material. It doesn’t have to be a full song, just so that I could hear what approach you will take.

Thanks for your support, all! I don’t have much to report, but we’re still looking for a keyboard player and a band name. Small steps at the moment, but we’re getting there. Can’t wait to post some news when things are ready.
